Keeping up the Festival Buzz

Did you attend a Christian Festival this summer?

We all get the festival buzz, burning with delight as we arrive home to our families. It’s the one time in the year when you feel on top of the world.  But now it’s gone, just a memory… No more blasting music from the big top, late night silent discos, pillow fights, or playing tricks on the team leader. Sound depressing? … Well it doesn’t have to be. Jonny Ward from Mobilise 2012 shares his secret tip on how to fuel your fire.

On the last night the gig hit the highest intensity. Reminisce the moment when the guy on the piano begins to sing a melody, and his voice sounds as though heaven just touched the face of earth. Where you worshiping his voice, or heaven’s voice? The danger is falling in love with the moment and not seizing God’s love for us. The true buzz that we can fuel and maintain comes from putting your trust in God, not in thrills alone.

 These are my three simple steps to a thriving spiritual life:

1)       Read your Bible

It’s crucial to read your bible. I’m sure you’ve heard your youth leader banging on about it. The Bible is one of the ways we can get to know God and the amazing plans he has for us. Learning the scriptures can help you discern right from wrong keeping you on the straight and narrow path. “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free” John 8v32

2)       Fellowship

Spend time with other Christians you can relate to. This doesn’t just mean read the Bible together, it means hang out and socialise. You know how it’s done! This will encourage you to look out for each other, building up relationships in the body of Christ. “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” Matthew 18v20

3)       Pray

God loves to hear your voice, tell him everything from the pain the laughter. He loves you so much that he gave his only begotten son for a beautiful exchange. Spending time with God is not only refreshing and strengthening, but it helps you to recognise his voice in the future. “And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Luke 11v9

 Think back to the event and, answer these questions:

·         How many times did you read your Bible?

·         How long did you spend socialising with others?

·         How often did you pray to God?

These three simple steps are the origins of Festival Buzz. Keep them up!Your spiritual life will beam from the inside out.
