Question 5- Hows did you attracts/adress your audience?

Development of Front Cover

Question 7- looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

Looking at my first magazine cover, I think I have definitely improved a significant amount. My knowledge and understanding of Photoshop as increased and through this my work ha become more professional and smooth looking.
Magazine covers-
The photography has proved a fair amount, although my fist cover wasn’t so bad but could have been improved by increasing contrast and brightness levels as well as a slight adjustment on the curve levels. On
my second cover there’s a more professional glow to the models face; This is all down to the LED lighting facilities in the studio, and also a little manipulation on Photoshop. The positions of the models are different the first cover model is positioned to the side leaning into the centre which engages the reader in a fairly forceful away. It looks as though the image should be jumping of the page but its held back by the cover lines. My second cover is more sophisticated, the model is positioned in the centre and is nicely balanced with more interacting cover lines, bold mast head, and banner at the bottom. Both covers use direct address effectively. This smiling and wells coming approach is more appropriate to the audience of the second cover. The first is directed to a similar aged audience, however, its not quite as niche as the second one in the way its directed to all students and not just Christians. This means for the first cover, an approach that is higher in attitude would be more attractive to the general audience. With the second cover a more friendly Christian approach would be better received by the target audience. Both covers have a strong use of colour, however the second is more effective with it as it repeats each colour in different places creating a consistent house style.

 Contents page
- There is a massive difference between the two pages. The first page is very sharp and simple, in a way that isn’t very appealing at all. Only using green, black, and white, creates a very bland and boring feel. Because it is so structure it doesn’t flow nicely, not allowing your eye to wonder freely around the page. The second page is more loose in style allowing you to wonder around the page. It still keeps an element of structure by the use of columns. I have use a strong use of shape as I have done on the first page, but this time I have used it for a more conventional purpose, the triangles direct your eye to a specific area. On the first page I have consistently used the same font, this again makes the page look very boring and un-interesting. However, for my second page I have used a variety of fonts for different purposes, this makes the page look more detailed and engages more interest.

Question 6- What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Photoshop-
I was only very new to Photoshop when designing my webpage, as I practiced more and more with it, I became familiar with techniques, and ways to enhance every detail attractively. I experimented with contrast and brightness levels. This allowed me to make my images look smooth giving a professional father than ordinary glow to my models faces, with this I found the spot healing tool very useful. It was difficult to understand the use of layers at first, but after a while I learned to use them effectively. Through this I noticed that you can control what the viewer sees first, and show an order of significance. For example my model on the front cover is layer over the top of the mast head, I achieved this through using the magic wand tool.
Behind the scene-
I had also never taken photo’s in a properly set up studio, I really enjoyed playing with the lighting, find way to create the shine in the models eyes. While doing this I realised that props would be very useful. I found a wooden cross in the studio and used this as a picture for my double page spread. This was very useful considering my audience is Christian and this is very iconic for Christians.
Networking sites-
Before planning and designing this magazine I had no idea what Flickr and Blogger was. It was quite scary getting started on these media profiles. Once I did I realised its not so complicated. Most people my age and the age of my target audience would know what these networking sites are and maybe have there own. Creating these networking profiles help me to keep up to date with modern conventions.

There is a disadvantage to relying on these online based profiles. The disadvantage is that if the internet goes down, then we cant access our work. Particularly if the computers are slow. Also trusting in applications like Blogger can be risky as I have heard people have had difficulties with their Blog site have disappeared. I found it difficult to access my Blog site because I just kept forgetting my login, which isn’t good when you want to keep everything up to date.
